the Purple Pompadour
Tentacle Boy, resurrected
I found a really kickass Photoshop brush today called Stumpy Pencil and decided to try it out. Drawing in Photoshop never felt so good. Usually I’m a strict paper+pen+scan-it guy, but this could change that.
This character is a really old one of mine that, for no reason I can explain, I decided to pull out and draw tonight. He’s Tentacle Boy - a something from another world, masquerading as a little boy by wearing a plastic half-boy shell. He has fun on the playground ripping other kids into pieces with his otherworldly tentacles of quiet doom.
the drunk
Went to see Hancock tonight, and really liked it.

Partly inspired by the movie, and in part by The Superest, here’s “The Drunk.” He brings bad guys to their knees with nothing but his overpowering booze-and-b.o. stench, and can melt metal with his toxic liquor-breath. As an added bonus, he can also ingest an entire pool of jet fuel and still hold himself partially upright enough to tell you a thing or two about life while pointing a fat finger in your face.
fussy old lady, others

While eating lunch at the restarant downstairs from my apartment, the old lady from this page was sitting with another old man, named David (I think it was her brother?). They, well mostly just the lady but David chimed in from time to time, were having a really loud conversation that wandered all over the place. I tried to tune them out, but it was impossible. From politics, to the HD broadcast flag, to the tax rebate, to movies they disliked - they covered it all. The lady seemed to reply to everything David said with this whiney, “they’re not gonna do that David.” The poor guy wasn’t allowed to have any opinion of his own without this woman shooting it down, hard. Much to my surprise, he just rolled with it rather than throwing a plate at her. She sounded like a mix of George Costanza’s mother and Pat from Saturday Night Live.
Well, you have to start somewhere…
After having this domain and website in virtual retirement for a few years, I’ve decided to dust it off and put it to good use.
I’ll be using Land Unknown as a sketch blog, hopefully posting some animations and anything else related that comes up along the way. The idea is to draw something for the site at least once a day. We’ll see how well I stick to that.
Here’s something a bit older to start things off:

“Cock and Beaver”
It’s amazing what kind of stupid, tasteless cartoon concepts can spawn out of drunken conversations at the bar. Cock and Beaver are friends, getting into high jinks and misadventures. Much like Ren and Stimpy, or a couple of really bad cartoons named after a childish sexual inuendo.
